To provide an
enjoyable and challenging Highland Band experience for youth in the Calgary
area.
The OLPB was formed in
1972 to provide a focused activity for teenagers. It is sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, Ogden Branch
#154 in Southeast Calgary, Canada. This band draws its members from the greater Calgary area.
- We have
been the Grade IV Provincial Champions for the past five consecutive years and
Provincial Grade 5 Champions prior to that. The band has also won major awards and honours in Canada and
Scotland.
- The band
wears the Royal Stewart tartan.
- The band
has graduated many skilled pipers and drummers who continue to play in the
various adult bands in the province. Several have graduated directly to the World Class Grade 1 Alberta
Caledonia Pipe Band.
- The band’s
season runs from September to the end of the following August for the Playing
Band and from October to the end of June of the following year for practice
pad/chanter members
- The band will
travel several times per season to band and solo competitions throughout
Western Canada. It is committed to
attending the World Piping Championships in Glasgow, Scotland every two to
three years.
- The band
is an incorporated not for profit organization and are accountable to the board
of directors who act on behalf of our strong parent association.
