Band Directors – The cornerstone of our success as a performance and competition band!

We would like to introduce our Directors, and Piping and Drumming Instructors.  Our team is instrumental to our success and we are very proud to have this level of instruction.

kathy Drumming Director: Kathy MacPherson

Kathy has been our Director of Drumming since 2004. Originally from Nova Scotia, Kathy made her way west and played with the world renowned Simon Fraser University pipe band from 1995 – 1998, then went on to play with the grade 2 Robert Malcolm Memorial pipe band from 1999-2002. She was lead drummer for her last 2 seasons with RMM II and finished second at the worlds in 2002. She was also a member of the Alberta Caledonia pipe band from 2003-2007.

patrick Piping Director: Patrick Napper

Patrick has been our Director of Piping for 2 years and prior to that has provided instruction to band members as a senior instructor.  He has over 20 years of experience teaching soloists, bands, seminars and piping schools.

Patrick is a former member of the SFUPB, winning the World Championships with them in 1995 and 1996.  In 1999, he took over the Pipe Sergeant position of with the RMM II. They went on to finish 2nd at the 2000 North American Championships and 2nd at the 2002 World Championships.

He is the former Pipe Sergeant of the Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band. As well, he's an avid music composer/arranger and has been adjudicating bands and soloists for over 15 years.

Drumming Instructors

Bob Walters, Sr. Drumming Instructor

Bob has over 40 years of drumming experience and instruction to the OLPB. He was the drum Sergeant.  He is the former lead drummer of the Grade 3 Calgary Police Pipe Band, where he also instructed.  He has won numerous solo and pipe band competitions and completed manu drumming instructor courses as well.

Holly Shaw, Jr. Drumming Instructor


Holly has been playing the tenor drum for 4 years and teaching them for 2 years.  She is currently playing at the professional level and with a member of the Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band.

Piping Instructors

Russ Robertson, Sr. Piping Instructor
 
Russ has been instructing and working with players from the beginner level and seeing them through to becoming competition players in the band for 4 years.  He has 28 years of piping experience with 5 years competing at the professional level and 8 years playing with the Grade 1 Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band.

Tyler Lydiatt, Jr. Piping Instructor  

Tyler has been involved in piping for approximately 9 years, formerly as the Pipe Sergeant of the Ogden Legion Pipe Band.  Tyler played with the OLPB on competitions trips to Scotland in 2006 and 2008.  Tyler has been teaching piping for approximately 2 years. He is currently playing with the Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band and,competes as a solo piper at the Grade 1 level.
